SFBACCT Clinician Support

Psychologists at the SFBACCT offer individual or group consultation for licensed clinicians (PhDs, PsyDs, MDs, LCSWs, and LMFTs).

SFBACCT psychologists offer consultation in case conceptualization and treatment planning, evidence-based practices for various disorders, setting up clinical practice, and using data from measures to inform treatment.

The SFBACCT does not offer supervision to unlicensed clinicians.

Joan Davidson

Developing individualized case formulations and treatment plans: using a transdiagnostic approach to identify psychological mechanisms underlying single or multiple problems and diagnoses (e.g., intolerance of uncertainty, perfectionism, evaluation fears, over-responsibility, negative coping beliefs, core schemas, meta-cognitions, avoidance, negative bias, internalizing, rumination/worry) and choosing treatment strategies and interventions accordingly. Blending elements of empirically supported treatments, (e.g., ACT, ERP, metacognitive therapy, mindfulness, and compassion-focused strategies.) Using collaboration, client-therapist creativity, and compassion, and building on clients’ strengths, histories, and backgrounds to individual evidence-based treatments. (based on the book, A Transdiagnostic Roadmap to Case Formulation and Treatment Planning: Practical Guidance for Clinical Decision Making)
Guidance when feeling stuck: Reviewing diagnostic hypotheses and identification of underlying mechanisms, attention to the collaborative nature of the therapeutic relationship, utilizing client and therapist creativity when individualizing treatments drawn from evidence-based approaches, and approaching problematic impasses in treatment.
Treating clients with OCD: Using ERP effectively, integrating ACT and ERP, using a metacognitive approach to intrusive thoughts, addressing rumination, worry, and mental compulsions, building motivation and using creative and values-based strategies to implement treatment. (largely based on the book, Daring to Challenge OCD: Overcome Your Fear of Treatment & Take Control of Your Life Using Exposure and Response Prevention, Davidson, 2014).
