Monique Thompson

Dr. Monique Thompson is a licensed clinical psychologist and partner at the San Francisco Bay Area Center for Cognitive Therapy. She is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Sciences Program at the University of California, Berkeley. She has published research on interventions to improve CBT treatments and is the author of two books: The Insomnia Workbook for Teens (2018) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression: Essential Strategies to Manage Negative Thoughts and Start Living Your Life (2020).

Dr. Thompson treats a range of conditions, including anxiety (worry, panic social anxiety, illness anxiety), depression, insomnia (and other sleep disorders), ADHD, and challenging life transitions (divorce, parenthood, retirement, end-of-life). She also has extensive experience working with individuals with chronic illness.
Dr Thompson specializes in science-based treatments proven to be effective. She has years of experience researching and delivering these treatments to teens and adults. She utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as mindfulness and acceptance practices. She emphasizes a collaborative approach that integrates the individual’s unique experiences and goals with evidence based approaches to achieving lasting change and relief. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Thompson supervises graduate students and offers consultation to colleagues. She conducts workshops and trainings for professionals and companies. Dr. Thompson consults with and creates content for mental health startups and organizations developing technology-based therapeutic tools. She has created app-based interactive content for depression, anxiety, insomnia and life stress targeting company employees and university students.
Dr. Thompson received a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. She is a certified cognitive therapist and a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. She was a staff psychologist at Golden Bear Mood and Sleep Research Center at UC Berkeley working on clinical trials to explore and enhance cognitive therapy techniques and treatments for teen insomnia.
