Self-Help Books for Adults

Below is a list of self-help books that we have read and recommend to our patients. We work hard to stay current on new releases and we add to this list as new books are published.

Self-help books are generally best-used in addition to therapy, not instead of therapy. Self-help books can provide useful information about disorders and effective treatment. They provide descriptions of how therapy works and the rationale for specific interventions that therapists recommend. Self-help books are consistent with cognitive-behavior therapy, which emphasizes teaching clients skills to understand and change behaviors in order to solve problems.
